Aktuell umfasst es 5 verschiedene Leitungsarten, die jeweils unterschiedliche Anschlüsse/Fittinge benötigen. Um die Zuordnung der Anschlüsse zu den Adaptern und den jeweiligen Leitungen zu erleichtern, werden diese nummeriert und mit einem Strich (englisch Dash) vorgesetzt. Ein -6 (ausgesprochen Dash 6) PTFE Anschluss passt dabei zu jeder PTFE Dash 6 Leitung und kann auf jeden Anschluss aufgeschraubt werden, der mit Dash 6, AN 6 oder auch JIC 6 bezeichnet wird.
Die verschiedenen Bezeichnungen und ihre Verwendung / Verbreitung:
Motorsport: Dash -> bedeutet nicht mehr und nicht weniger als "Strich", im Motorsport sind wir einerseits faul und andererseits international.
Tuningsektor: AN = Army Navy -> Das modulare System wurde ursprünglich für die Verwendung im Militär und der Luftfahrt entwickelt.
Industrie: JIC = Joint Industrial Council -> Industrienorm, wird in erster Linie im Bereich der Hydraulik verwendet.
Aus technischer Sicht stehen alle drei Bezeichnungen (JIC, Dash, AN) für Schlauchsysteme mit UNF Gewinde und einem mechanisch dichtenden 37° Konus. Allerdings bestehen die Anschlüsse im Bereich der Hydraulik meistens aus Stahl, während Dash / AN Anschlüsse in der Regel aus hochfestem Aluminium gefertigt werden und damit auf die Bedürfnisse des Motorsports und der Luftfahrt angepasst sind.
